Thessaloniki, 5-6 September 2024



A two day event was organised by the General Secretariat for Spatial Planning and Urban Environment at the Ministry of Environment and Energy.


The highlight of the main event was a dedicated meeting with the mayors of the Greek Mission Cities (Athens, Ioannina, Kalamata, Kozani, Thessaloniki, and Trikala), along with Efthimios Bakogiannis, the General Secretary for Spatial Planning and Urban Environment, and other representatives from the Greek Ministry of Energy.
​The discussion focused on the progress of implementing CCCs and developing the National Network of Mission Cities.

Very 'high temperatures' in European Mission Cities as most of them are in the final stage to submit their Climate City Contracts in September.

In the presence of the political leadership of the Ministry of Environment and Energy, a Memorandum of Cooperation is signed by 85 Greek cities committed to work in achieving climate neutrality.


Mayors and city representatives from the six cities, Athens, Ioannina, Kalamata, Kozani, Thessaloniki and Trikala from Greece and Limassol from Cyprus that have been selected by the European Commission to participate in the EU Mission '100 climate-neutral and smart cities by 2030' have also participated in the event.

The meeting was part of the annual international exhibition of Thessaloniki and the discussion was with General Secretaries from Greek ministries, and Mayors and representatives from the Greek mission cities Ioannina, Kalamata, Kozani, Trikala, Thessaloniki, Athens and Limassol from Cyprus.

An agreement was reached to establish the Greek National Network of Mission Cities.
